War On Time

Well, there have been a slew of things preventing me from blogging for the past month.  I’ll spare you all the gritty details and sum it up to say that *fingers crossed* all of these things that have been keeping me so busy mean good things for our family in the next year.

Since it’s been over a month since I’ve posted anything, I feel it’s appropriate to write about the one thing mommies never seem to have enough of: time.  What is it about that slippery little vixen that keeps us always struggling for another little piece of her?  She’s such a tease.  She always shows up unexpectedly and forces you to make silly little decisions (“I got out of work 45 minutes early, do I throw a load in the wash and get the dishes done  before the kids get home, or do I take a nap and a moment to breathe before I spend all night at my second job homemaking?”)

Why does it seem that no matter what we do, we’re always out of time?  If I spend it cleaning, I didn’t spend enough on the kids.  If I spend it on the kids, I didn’t spend enough on the dog.  If I take time to walk the dog, I haven’t spent any time on the hubby.  You see how this circle goes on and on?  I know I’m not the only one.

So, I hereby declare a war on time.  I know there are ways I can make all of the minutes in the day count.  I know I regularly waste precious moments because I’m caught in this never-ending debacle with time.  I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and I feel like I’ve got to make some changes.  Some of these changes are big and I’ll get to those in later posts… and some are small.  I feel like declaring war on time is a small change that will have a huge impact (so I guess that makes it big?).  I’m setting out to clear my life of all the ridiculous little time wasters that prevent me from getting everything I want out of this life.  And, I’m also making small adjustments in the Mom Goggles household that will *hopefully* create time so that we can spend more of it doing the things we love.

I’ll keep you updated as changes are implemented, but in the meantime, what kinds of things do you do to save time?  What areas do you need to work on?  Maybe if we get some discussion going we can help each other institute change together and we can all benefit from a little extra time.

  1. I take one day and do the grocery shopping for the week and then prep and/or cook all the meals for the week. So when we all get home, we heat up dinner and feed our biggest monster (who will start ransacking the kitchen if she doesn’t eat by 6:00 on the dot). There are a lot less dishes to clean up after dinner because the cooking and prep has already been done. I also clean the house on the same day too. That way, after dinner, we clean up our plates and can relax with the kids for the hour before bedtime. Then on the weekends, we have more time to play and (when the kids are napping) have some grown up fun….you know, like catching up on tv shows ;)
